For those who want to get ahead in life, the willingness to “go the extra mile” is what separates the successful from the rest. Are you willing to go the extra length. The easiest way to develop the habit of this is to do one more before quitting. Weightlifters show us that the most beneficial rep is the last one, not the first one. Push yourself to do a little extra before you quit.



Inathletics, the difference between first and second place is often asmall margin. In such a close contest, the amount of effort put inpreparing for and going after the championship is almost identical. Usually, it is just a little extra effort that puts one over the top.


Agreat lesson can be learned from professional weightlifters. Theseathletes use repetitive sets of exercises to add muscle bulk whentraining for a contest. They understand that the first set is notthe one that has the most impact. The set that does the most forthem is the last set. It is the reason why people in gyms all overthe country are always trying to do one more set. Proportionatelyspeaking, that single exercise may have more impact on muscle growththan 75% of the workout. That is how powerful that act of doing onemore is.

Our actions suddenlypropel us towards our goals at a higher velocity.

From a statistical perspective, an extra call aday results in about 240 more calls per year. This is the equivalentof 12 days worth of in person marketing calls in many industries. The top producer created an extra two weeks when compared to theaverage person. It becomes easy to see how they can average a fewmore sales per month.


Thisconcept pushes one to do those things that others will not. This isexactly what the most successful people do. They are willing to dowhat is required to achieve the pre-determined results. Businesspeople put in the hours to erect the systems that create the incomedesired. Husbands/Wives do the things that continually lets theirspouse know how much they are loved and appreciated. World classathletes dedicate the time to training when they prefer to beelsewhere. Parents invest the time with their children teaching themvalues while providing a loving, safe haven for them to grow. Success in any endeavor necessitates a willingness to do what isrequired.


Mostpeople remain in their comfort zone. In their quest to avoid pain,they cease to try new things. Unfortunately, one of the greatestways to strengthen our capabilities is to expand this zone. The morethat we are willing to stretch ourselves, the more we will grow. Often, do one more is uncomfortable. We want to stand pat on what wealready accomplished. However, the ebb and flow of the universedictates that nothing stands still. If we are not moving forward,then we are stepping backwards. Going the extra mile ensures that weat least keep pace with the rest of the world. Typically, it enablesus to far out pace those around us.


Thissimple concept will turn an average life into an extraordinary one. It allows people to become stars in their own lives. Similar toathletics, the minimal difference in effort yields a tremendousdifference in results. Each day builds upon the previous day. Thecumulative effect over the course of a year is astounding. While itis almost invisible in the short term, the long term results puts usin an entirely different place. Just like compound interest does nothave much impact in a years time, it's influence is huge when lookedat over decades. The longer one goes the extra mile, the betterone's life becomes.
