Used cars are nowadays termed as “certified –pre-owned” cars or CPO.   Since these CPOs are in such great shape and have lower used mileage, the dealers will ensure that they deliver a positive purchase and ownership to the buyers.  CPO vehicles are selling at a growth rate of 21 percent per year.  Successful used car dealers carry the positive attitude of “customer for life” philosophy well beyond the sales of new vehicles.  In most dealerships, warranty becomes a lesser service element but maintenance, service and general repair work are the key to expanding business.

Used car dealers are many in number if one enquires regarding the price and other details of a car but the most challenging task is to select the right one which can be achieved by visiting a dealer’s website or talking to a sales representative.  Auto magazines also assess the used cars’ performance, condition and technical specifications and make comparison of cars of different models.

There are various types of car dealers like franchised new car dealers, independent used car lots or private sales.  Franchised dealers have younger used cars, have better warranties and repair facilities to back them up.  These kinds of dealers generally charge more.  Independent used car lots may offer lower prices but very often lack repair facilities.  More established lots who are concerned about their reputation are better than private sale owners who offer no guarantee about the car’s condition or future repairs.
Purchasing a used car focusing on the functionality, economy and performance is not an easy task because the most challenging part is negotiating over the price with the dealer.  A copy of the dealer’s warranty should be produced to the buyer.
 
Two key factors are important for marketability – controlling inventory and marketing to targeted customers.  The three main points that a used car dealer has to take into consideration are mileage, condition and special features.   Some cosmetic changes by the dealer like washing and working the car, tidying the interior and cleaning the carpet and upholstery can boost the appearance to a great extent.  On line business takes more of hassles out of selling the car and even selling the car to the highest bidder can be another option.

Having knowledge about the pricing patterns and car terminology having concise information is necessary to deal with a potential buyer.
